We had record freezing temperatures the first week of February.

The boys kept telling me we had icicles in our backyard and I just didn't believe it until I went outside and saw for myself (don't laugh...this counts as icicles when you are in Mesa).

I had gone out the night before to cover the garden in hopes it wouldn't freeze, but the wind blew the sheets off during the night. The only thing that saved us was that the sprinklers came on. Such a weird combination of events, but even though everything seemed to be frozen hard, it thawed out later that morning and was fine. The only thing we lost were the sugar snap peas.

Jacob braved the cold for a few minutes to "skate" on the cement.

This was an experience we have never had living here.

The frozen water was so pretty all over everything!

Frozen water slide.

It was so interesting to find where the ice had formed in the backyard!

This was really awesome. When the sheets blew off in the night they kind of piled up. Then the sprinklers soaked them and they froze in that shape. Jacob stood this one on end to show how stiff it was.

Lettuce and carrots both survived! Hooray!
