Allen Family Reunion

It was pure awesomeness to be with everyone at Fish Lake this summer. Katy was, as usual, so creative in the things she had planned for us to do around the theme of "Courage."

One of the activities the kids loved the most was this web she made in the trees. She had scattered little prizes throughout the maze and the kids had to carefully make their way through without touching the strings. SO cute!

Of course they all jumped at the chance to shoot airsoft guns at the targets she set up.

Each family was in charge of one meal while we were at the cabin. Everything was so yummy! And Joe became my favorite brother ever by making these fabulous Brazilian fruit drinks.

Aunt Anita brought Grandma Allen up from Manti so she could see all of us. It was fun to visit with her and show her how much the great-grandkids have grown.

Katy's other fun, fun idea was a trading post! Each cousin brought 10-15 small items to trade with each other. It was quite a process and such a great kid activity.

Isaac shows off his stash:

After they practiced shooting the targets, they were all ready for a "bear hunt." They brought their nerf guns and we hiked up to the top of a hill. On the way, we were a little unnerved by this sight (it was kind of fresh!):

At the top of the hill was a great monument to perseverance. As the story goes, there was a shepherd named Lorenzo who, over the period of about 40 years built these amazing rock sculptures. Apparently they used to look like animals, people, even buildings, but have been mistreated and torn down.

We loved what we saw, anyway. Besides, we were on a bear hunt and keeping our eyes peeled for bears hiding in the rocks. Grandpa Tom had visited earlier that day and there were bags of teddy grahams and gummy bears for the kids to find.

But ALWAYS the favorite activity is early-morning fishing. I can't believe how eager these sleepy-eyed little ones were to get up to spend time with Grandpa in the freezing pre-dawn.

There was always afternoon and evening fishing, too.

This was perfect for Isaac because he just couldn't get up in the mornings like everyone else and felt so bad at being left behind.

And boy, were there fish tales, too! (Mine is the truth: I caught one while I was out on the boat! I couldn't believe it. It's kind of fun. As long as Dan cleaned it for me. And Jared cooked it so I could eat it for lunch.)

On our last evening at the cabin we made s'mores. Yummo.

The marshmallows were so tempting!

Jacob took this sweet picture of Isaac and Granny conked out in front of the fireplace.

The Allen Gang (minus Spencer and Jeremy. maybe next year.):
