So, Noah finally found some time in his busy life to schedule some days for his Eagle project. On July 19th we met at the Driftwood building in our stake to repair their damaged hymnbooks. Noah had invited interested adults to come 30 minutes early to learn how to do the repairs. Then, they helped teach and supervise the repairs when the youth showed up.
We set up the tables with scissors, razor blades, rulers, packing tape, gorilla glue, toothpicks, and paper towels.
We gathered the hymnbooks from around the building.
And then we began!
Once we all learned the process, it was amazing how quickly and easily it went.
We started to clean up and enjoy treats...
...but then discovered a truth about gorilla glue: it is a wonderful adhesive, but it E-X-P-A-N-D-S!!!
We spent the next hour-and-a-half desperately trying to save books that had gorilla glue seeping out of the crevices, bubbling onto the covers, and sticking the pages together.
We could have died. That stuff does not come off! After all was said and done we only lost about 15 books and had learned a valuable lesson for next time.
We met at the Lindsay building on July 28th and repeated the process with their hymnbooks.
They didn't have nearly as many books to fix and it went quickly and smoothly.
We had learned to use tiny bits of gorilla glue and to watch carefully for any expansion and things turned out great.
We had awesome helpers, too!
The final day of repairs was at the Stake building on July 31st. Noah had announced to the wards in that building that we needed help to finish up his project. One of the ward's scout leaders brought some of his scouts to help out, and several other people showed up, too. Now if repairs are needed in the future they know how to do it.
We were SO grateful for everyone who came to help, and for those who donated supplies. Noah was so blessed by many people who were willing to serve. I'm so proud of him. He showed great leadership and is such an amazing young man. I'm privileged to be his mom.
