Celebration of Scouting

The Gilbert 12th Ward had a joint Court of Honor/Pack Meeting last Thursday and boy! was it a celebration of Scouting!
We had a potato bar and a s'more chocolate fountain before the awards ceremonies.
Spencer received his Family Life (thanks, mom), Indian Lore, Camping, and Soil & Water Conservation merit badges, as well as his Star Rank.
Noah received his first three Webelos activity badges: Engineer, Aquanaut and Traveler.
I love Scouts! I love being involved in this marvelous program for boys' development. My own boys think I'm naggy but I always tell them it's for their own good. Momsense! "Because I'm the Mom. Tada!"

Jacob's Olympic Birthday Party

(Please go to the bottom of the page and click on the Olympics theme song to get the full effect of the following photos.)

Happy Birthday Jacob!

We had Jacob's Olympics Birthday Party this morning and had so much fun! When his ten friends arrived, they were greeted by a "Welcome Athletes" banner and then picked a country to represent. They colored their country's flag and we stuck it to their back so they could compete. We had a torch relay to take the Olympic flame around the world and then the Opening Ceremonies consisted of a performance of "Happy Birthday to Jacob" and consuming the Olympic rings (doughnuts and milk!). Jacob even chose to forgo the cake and have his candles in his doughnut. The athletic competitions were heated, with basketball shoot-outs and baseball throws being just the preliminaries before the Wii Olympic Javelin throwing. The final sport was pinata whacking. Everyone received a gold medal in the Closing Ceremonies, which also included gift-giving and opening. What a super fun morning! Jacob got some great gifts, including lots of Pokemon cards and a Target gift card to buy more, a Ripstick (with helmet, kneepads, elbow pads and wrist pads from the Kings and the Carlsons), sidewalk chalk, sea monkeys, Indiana Jones legos, and Pirates coloring pages.

First Day of School!

Well, we started school this week! Spencer is now officially a Taylor Junior High Trojan and has survived his first ride on a school bus, first day of changing classes all day (along with his first tardy), and I'm sure many other firsts that I may or may not want to know about. Noah is a fifth grader at Franklin East Elementary (go Firebirds!) in Ms. Kaminsky's class. He's looking forward to starting Advanced Band next week and Flag Football the week after that. Jacob is in first grade! His teacher is Ms. Gonzales. Mom gets to go to class with him to help out every other week . Isaac is lost without his brothers. Mom is playing lots of basketball and reading lots of books with him. He loves when we get to go out, ANYWHERE, even the grocery store. We're going to start a playgroup so he can see his friends during the week.

So, as the Mom and as the Queen, I should have lots of time on my hands now! Ha! I've been busy this week trying to put together our Children's Sacrament Meeting Presentation and finding the floor in the boys' rooms. I also started attending a gardening group, and since my dear honey got the sprinklers fixed for my 16th Anniversary present, I think I will try and get my garden in before my dad comes to visit. On second thought, that might give him a heart attack, so I might wait and let him help me!

Speaking of anniversaries, Jeremy and I went to Mi Amigos (yum!) for dinner and then bought a new digital camera at Office Max. Hot date! I guess I need to learn to post pictures here soon!
